Eggenberg Palace during the Winter Months

Eggenberg Palace opens from April to October and the state rooms are close during winter. However, the gardens and courtyards are accessible with a fee of 2 euros.

It's unfortunate that the state rooms were closed during our visit there. Well, we still get to roam in the vast gardens. The ticket seller revealed that the garden is pretty popular among locals during winter and some of them go there daily for morning and evening walks.

It's relaxing to take a stroll in the gardens. You get to enjoy the beautiful scenery and birds and dancing around the birdbox. You might even bump into the vainest creature on earth; the peacock!

I have a thing for entrances. I guess it is the mystery of what lies beyond it that intrigues me. Especially entraces such as this that brings you from a pathway into a large courtyard revealing its superb architecture and beauty.

The photo below highlights the arches and columns of the courtyard emphasising its unique design. I shot the courtyard from a low angle which brings the pebble floor into the foreground. This adds texture to the image making it a much more interesting shot.

There's a huge pond around the gardens and locals came here to feed the ducks. I never knew that ducks love skiing on waters. They flew and glide onto the waters making big splashes and somehow stay afloat. It's an eye-opener!

It can be pretty cold in the gardens and worst of all, I left my gloves in the apartment. My hand was burning and slightly reddened. Thus, be fully prepared for the cold if you're visiting Eggenberg Palace during winter.

It's too good a chance to miss visiting Eggenberg Palace which is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Furthermore, it's just a few minutes drive from the apartment.
