Exploring Khao Yai: The Things We Did

A short 3 hours' drive brings us from the bustle streets of Bangkok to Khao Yai. Here are some of the things we did in Khao Yai.

1. Trekking at Khao Yai National Park

Armed with leech socks and sunscreen, we followed our guide in search of wildlife at Khao Yai National Park. During our tour we caught a glimpse of a Horn-bill soaring through the sky, several monkeys chilling in the forest; played with a grass scorpion and tracked down a wild elephant. This is the activity we enjoyed most in Khao Yai.

ABOVE: Our driver halted the car and ran a good twenty meters just to catch this grass scorpion for us.

ABOVE: We were so lucky to join the park rangers in tracking the wild elephant. It went on the rampage destroying everything in its way.

2. Feed the Alpacas at Primo Piazza

Primio Piazza is filled with elegant Italian architecture which makes it very Instagram friendly. We took quite a number of photos here and the completed the most important task; feeding the alpacas and goats. It's a great place to shop for souvenirs at Primio Piazza.

3. Visiting Ban Mai Chay Nam Museum & Restaurant

This is an interesting museum filled with vintage toys and items. It's great for a shuttle-bug like me. However, we left shortly after being bitten multiple times by mosquitoes.

4. Go on an Education Tour at Farm Chok Chai

At Farm Chok Chai, we watched a short video on the farm's history before heading over to the milking station. This is where they performed traditional hand milking and also how milking is done now using machines. Lastly, we watched the cowboy performance and mini pet show.

Farm Chok Chai is the prefect place to bring young kids. They get to interact with farm animals and gain some knowledge from the tour.

5. Dining at Midwinter Green

Food at Midwinter Green is delicious! I fell in love with their chili bacon spaghetti and had been trying to recreate it ever since. The atmosphere is amazing; dining hall was lit up warmly and music by acoustics band filled the room. However, great things comes with a price. The price of food here is much more expensive than other restaurants in Khao Yai.

6. Wine Tasting at PB Valley

At PB Valley, we walked through the tedious process of how grapes are made into wine right till the bottle ending up in the market for sale. Towards the end of the tour, we get to taste the different kind of wine; red, white, aged wine. On the way back to the main lobby, we stopped by the vineyard where the grapes are grown.

7. Being Japanese at Zen Villa

We stayed at Zen Villa during our time in Khao Yai. Traditional Japanese clothings are provided for the guests. I guess we weren't the only crazy ones because the attendant brought us some props while we were having our photoshoot around Zen Villa in our costumes.

ABOVE: Don't you love Japanese wooden sliding doors(Shoji)?

ABOVE: Ta-da! I transformed into a skilled Japanese samurai. Taste my blade.

Khao Yai is definitely worth exploring. There are other cafes, restaurants and attractions we did not visit given the limited amount of time. Do take note that Grab is not available in Khao Yai and we do see any public buses around; so rent a car or book a driver.
